What class means
Class of water intrusion estimates the evaporation load. It guides your initial humidity control decisions on the job.
Classification is based on
- Wet surface area across walls, floors and ceilings.
- Permeance and porosity of the affected materials.
Permeance: the ability of a material to let water vapour, the gas form of water, pass through it.
Porous materials
- Carpet
- Gypsum board
- Fibre-fill insulation
- Concrete masonry unit (CMU)
- Textiles
Class is determined during the initial inspection, but it can be adjusted later based on restorability or on how much access you have to the wet materials.
