Handling affected contents
Begin with visual inspection and documentation.
- Determine the extent of damage and restorability.
- Inventory and document contents.
- Remove contents only after approvals from the associated stakeholders — builder, insured or insurance company.
- Apply mitigation procedures to prevent further or secondary damage.
Restorable water-damaged contents can be cleaned by various methods.
Special considerations
- Consider the category of water and the presence of contamination.
- Separate unaffected items to avoid cross-contamination.
- Take special care with porous contents like textiles.
- Take special care if affected contents are being stored with unaffected ones.
