Photography

Electronics and appliances: capture model and serial numbers. Take thermal imaging photos for moisture detection on water-affected contents.

• If any pre-loss damage — cracks, dents, scratches — is identified, document it.
• Include a tape measurement shot of contents to show size.
• Use reporting apps to log moisture readings, equipment levels and damage conditions. Enable timestamping and reference points in all images.
• Ask the insured for any photos they took before you arrived — they may show information that’s since been lost.

Photographing a room

Start at the doorway and show the whole room. Then step inside and photograph from left to right, or right to left, consistently.
