The detection kit
Three tools and what each is for.
Non-contact thermometers
- Measure surface temperature using infrared (IR) technology without physical contact.
- Provide a single temperature reading for the targeted surface.
- Accuracy depends on the Distance-to-Spot Size (D:S) ratio — the farther the distance, the larger the measurement area.
- The target must fully cover the spot size, otherwise the reading will include surrounding temperatures.
- Some models include lasers to help estimate spot size and target accurately.
Borescope
- A visual inspection tool for hard-to-reach or confined spaces, available in rigid or flexible models.
- Advanced versions may include HD video, wireless controls, detachable screens and interchangeable cameras.
Moisture sensor
- Detects the presence of bulk moisture but does not provide numerical readings.
- Commonly used to identify the perimeter of water damage in carpet and underlay.
- Emits a sound when elevated moisture is detected through its probes.
- Not suitable for measuring moisture in other materials or for finalising drying jobs.
- Limited accuracy, especially below 17% moisture levels.
