Lesson 3.3.3
Why vapour pressure differential drives drying
Vapour pressure differential is a key factor in how fast moisture leaves wet materials. Moisture moves from higher vapour pressure (wet material) to lower vapour pressure (air in the drying environment).
Heating wet materials
Heating increases the temperature of the material, which raises the vapour pressure inside it. Higher VP means faster evaporation.
Dehumidification
Dehumidification reduces the humidity ratio (GPK) in the air, which lowers the air’s vapour pressure. Lower air VP means increased drying potential.
