Introduction to Water Damage

Four things shape every assessment on a water job.

1. Water travels. It has the potential to move long distances from the original source.
2. Water finds the lowest point. It travels to the lowest point of the area of least resistance on the project. That is why you check all potentially affected areas, not just the room where it started.
3. Extraction and monitoring depend on the extent. Based on the extent of damage, water extraction might be required, along with moisture monitoring on a regular basis once drying equipment is installed.
4. Drying progress has four drivers. The permeance of the material, the time of exposure to conditions, the atmospheric conditions, and the drying laws.
